Mystical Decorative Top with Sunflower

The Story…

I have long had the idea of creating something special — something with a subtle mystical character, carrying symbolic meaning, and at the same time evoking warm, bright memories from childhood.

It was meant to be an object you want to hold — something tactile and responsive in the hand — while also existing as a refined decorative presence in an interior.

Gradually, this idea took shape as a sculptural spinning top, enriched with symbolic forms and ornamental patterns.

As a foundation, I chose the sunflower — a form that, across many cultures, is associated with the sun, light, vitality, strength, and well-being. It is also believed to possess the ability to dispel negative energy.

On the opposite side, I created a stylized pattern inspired by thistle — a plant long associated in folk tradition with protective qualities, believed to ward off evil spirits and safeguard the home.

The result is a distinctive sculptural object — conceived as an interior element, yet approached with the attention to detail and refinement of a small-scale art piece.

I developed this sculpture in two directions:
— as a decorative object for interior spaces, with a vintage character and aged metallic finishes
— and as a smaller kinetic object — a spinning form, produced in resin and explored through multiple color variations

The spinning top itself becomes a quiet, meditative object — a point of focus through motion and balance, drawing attention, calming the mind, and inviting a moment of concentration.

…even my cat watches it as if enchanted.

Digital Sculpture — Form Exploration

This piece was first developed as a digital sculpture, allowing a precise exploration of form, balance, and surface rhythm.

The sunflower structure is interpreted through a sculptural language — combining radial symmetry with flowing organic detail,
while the underside introduces a contrasting ornamental pattern inspired by protective botanical forms.

The result is a cohesive object where symbolism, structure, and motion are resolved into a single sculptural composition.

Physical Object — Material and Presence

The sculpture was realized as a physical object, allowing the form to be experienced through scale, weight, and tactile detail.

In this white version, the focus shifts entirely to the structure of the form — the rhythm of the surface, the depth of the relief, and the clarity of the sculptural composition.

Motion and Interaction

Beyond its static presence, the object reveals another dimension through movement.

As a spinning form, it becomes a kinetic sculpture — shifting from a solid object into a dynamic visual experience defined by balance, rotation, and flow.

Small-Scale Object — Detail and Precision

This version of the sculpture was developed at a smaller scale, where attention to detail becomes even more essential.

The form was refined with a level of precision comparable to small-scale crafted objects — allowing the surface, relief, and transitions to remain clearly readable even in a compact size.

In this interpretation, the object takes on a more intimate character — something that can be held, examined closely, and experienced through touch.

Finished to resemble aged metal, it gains additional depth and presence, while retaining its function as a kinetic form — balancing between a sculptural object and a quietly engaging, interactive piece.

Kinetic Behavior

In motion, the object reveals its kinetic nature — transforming from a detailed sculptural form into a fluid, rotating presence.

Material Variations — Interpreting the Form

The same sculptural form was explored through different material interpretations and finishes.

By shifting color, surface, and visual weight, the object takes on distinct identities — from darker, more grounded tones to warmer, reflective surfaces that emphasize light and contrast.

Each variation reveals different aspects of the sculpture: the depth of the relief, the rhythm of the surface, and the way light interacts with the form in motion.

Transparent Material — Light and Depth

In transparent material, the sculpture reveals a different quality — one defined by light rather than surface.

The internal structure becomes visible, and the form begins to interact with its surroundings, shifting depending on angle, background, and illumination.

This interpretation emphasizes the spatial depth of the object, transforming it into a more ephemeral, light-driven presence.

Sculpture in Space — Interior Context

Placed within an interior, the object reveals its full character — not only as a form, but as a presence.

The interaction with light, surrounding materials, and spatial composition allows the sculpture to become part of the environment, shifting between a quiet accent and a focal point.
