Decorative carpet door stopper featuring a sculptural sailing ship bas-relief, designed as a portable door wedge for carpeted floors and interior use.

Sailing Ship Door Stopper

This decorative door stopper combines practical functionality with a sculptural nautical relief inspired by classic sailing ships.

The project began as a search for a portable door stopper that would work reliably on carpeted floors while also feeling like a natural decorative element within the interior rather than a purely utilitarian object.

The shape was carefully developed through practical testing and refinement to achieve a balance between functionality, compact size, and visual presence.

The angled wedge geometry allows the pressure of the door itself to help the stopper grip into carpet and hold the door securely in position.

At the same time, the sculptural sailing ship relief gives the object a distinct character and allows it to remain a small decorative accent even when not actively in use.

The stopper is especially useful for preventing accidental door closing caused by wind, draft, or air movement inside apartments and houses.

Please note that this design was developed primarily for softer floor coverings such as carpet. On smooth or slippery surfaces, the stopper may slide rather than lock against the floor and therefore may not function as intended.

Although relatively compact in size, the object was designed to combine reliable everyday functionality with a more decorative and thoughtfully designed appearance than is commonly associated with traditional door stoppers.

Physical Prototype

The images below show a physical printed version of the design in everyday use.

The stopper was developed specifically for carpeted floors, where the angled geometry allows the pressure of the door itself to help the object grip into the carpet and hold its position.

These photographs demonstrate the design interacting with both carpet and a real interior environment.

This original design is available both as a finished physical object and as a digital sculpture for personal 3D printing.

If you prefer a ready-made version, physical door stoppers are available through my Etsy Shop.

For those who enjoy making things themselves,
the original digital model is also available through selected 3D marketplaces.
This allows you to choose your own materials, colors, and printing preferences while reproducing the design for personal use.

Both versions originate from the same original design and simply offer different ways of bringing the object into everyday life.
