Decorative Panels with Portrait Reliefs — Digital Sculpting for CNC ProductionThis project is a series of decorative panels with portrait reliefs, developed for CNC production and inspired by classical furniture ornament. It focuses on careful reconstruction of an existing object — translating antique references into a precise digital model while preserving the character of carved wood. The project was created for the company “PINKADO” (Ukraine), based on reference materials of an antique cabinet provided by the client. The intention was not to reinterpret the design, but to carefully reconstruct it — preserving proportions, ornamental rhythm, and the character of the portraits. The panels were sculpted with attention to depth transitions and surface flow typical for carved wood, aiming to retain the feeling of hand carving while remaining suitable for CNC machining. Different visualization shaders were used to better reveal the relief structure — especially important for low and mid-relief areas where light defines the form more than geometry alone. The final 3D models were prepared for CNC machining and used for milling wooden panels. — March 2020 — |

The project includes multiple panel variations with different portrait inserts. This allows flexible use within furniture compositions — the same ornamental structure can be combined with different central elements, creating visual diversity without breaking the overall style. Each panel combines ornamental scrollwork with a central portrait medallion.
This creates an interesting contrast: refined decorative composition paired with very specific, almost raw portrait references. |

These types of panels are typically used in furniture production, decorative interiors, and architectural elements. They can function as cabinet fronts, wall panels, or ornamental inserts — depending on scale and material. The models also exist as independent digital assets and can be adapted for different applications, sizes, or production methods. Some variations may be available for use in other projects. |
